Slaine: The Badb

A short but sweet post today. The Badb in Sláine don’t really have a lot of details outside the three named characters, but let us dive on in.

Sláine “Badb" refers to a group of warrior-witches in the British comic series Sláine, who are devoted to the evil Lord Weird Slough Feg and serve as his priestesses and bodyguards. The term "Badb" itself is also the name of a figure from Irish mythology, a goddess of war who would appear to warriors on the battlefield. In the Sláine comic, three of these Badb figures: Nemon the Venomous, Fea the Hateful, and Catha the Fury, fought Sláine when he was to be sacrificed.

The mythological Badb

  • Goddess of War:

In Irish mythology, the Badb is a war goddess who delights in battle and often appears to warriors.

  • Appearance:

The Badb's name is also related to the word for a crow, and she is sometimes considered one of the three Morrígna, or the Morrigan's aspect.

  • Pronunciation:

The Irish spelling of the name, B-A-D-B, is pronounced with a "v" sound at the end, like "bav".
